Hayden Building
The Boston Preservation Alliance awarded BET with the Preservation Achievement Award on October 21, 2013.
Building Envelope Technologies (BET) was awarded and presented the 2013 Preservation Achievement Award for our work with assisting on the restoration and renovation of the historic brick building enclosure at 681 Washington Street, the Hayden Building. The Hayden Building is a five story brown stone building constructed with bearing masonry walls built in 1875. The building suffered a significant fire which left it with an incomplete roof and exposed to the elements for an extended period. Our team worked with CUBE Design and Research, LLC. to provide consulting services for the analysis of the existing structure and the integration of building envelope system components in context to the new design program.
BET’s team investigated the structure to determine the areas of existing deficiencies in the exterior enclosure components. BET worked with CUBE’s design team in the identification and detailing of the new building systems components and restoration of existing systems. The review of the exterior and interior conditions revealed situations that require a variety of elements to be repaired, including brownstone crack repair and repointing, localized areas of masonry replacement and repointing, localized areas of repointing of the interior of the foundation, localized areas requiring sealant replacement, window hardware and sill repairs, as well as a number of maintenance issues. BET is honored to have been selected as building envelope consultant on this historic restoration project and to have this award presented to the company by the Boston Preservation Alliance.
